Former US international and Fulham goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann has announced his retirement from football at the age of 42 after more than two decades in the game.
Hahnemann spent the past two-and-a-half seasons with the Seattle Sounders after coming out of a previous retirement in August 2012 to sign with his hometown team as a backup, making four MLS appearances during his final campaign.
Writing on his Instagram account, the Washington-native declared: "Officially retired again for 4 th time. Hanging in a #treehouse"
A reserve keeper for the national team at the 2006 and 2010 World Cups, Hahnemann fist began his professional career with the Sounders in 1994 during the club's time in the lower-divisions, before moving on to MLS with the Colorado Rapids in 1997.
Eventually transferring to Fulham in 1999, he would spend over 13 years in England, making more than 300 appearances during spells with the Cottagers, Reading, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Everton.
The nine-time capped shot-stopper earned the Championship Goalkeeper of the Year award for the 2005-06 season after helping Reading land promotion to the Premier League with a record 106 points.
