Horsfield on revenge mission

last updated Monday 14th August 2000, 8:05 AM

The club are refusing to comment after former Craven Cottage hero Geoff Horsfield launched a bitter attack on his old club.

Horsfield, dumped by Jean Tigana and sold to Birmingham because his robust style does not suit the team's new tactics, will come face to face with his former teammates at St Andrews on Friday.

And it could prove to be a fiery affair after Horsfield let loose a strong verbal attack on Tigana today. He said:

"Tigana hated my style of play. He said I was too aggressive for him and that he only wanted skillful players around the box. Well, good luck to him but I think his theories might take a bit of a knock in this division and, without sounding too malicious, I really hope they do.

"Charlton won the division last year because they had a bit of everything, including players who weren't afraid to get stuck in. We'll see who is right at the end of the season. Tigana never even said a word to me personally. He just told my agent he didn't want me anymore.

"Once I got the message, I wasn't going to hang around the reserves. I spoke to Trevor Francis and liked his ideas. I honestly believe Birmingham will be in the Premiership this year.

"I can't wait to face Fulham on Friday. Everybody who has ever been discarded by their former club wants to do really well and get three points against them. I'll be hyped up."

Horsfield's comments have hurt Fulham, who feel Horsfield always wanted to move further north to be nearer family and friends.

But they are refusing to comment on Horsfield's comments and start a war of words especially with Friday's match just a few days away.

There has been a firm 'no comment' from Craven Cottage and it looks like it will stay that way.
