Premier League Preview - 13th14th November 2010

last updated Saturday 13th November 2010, 12:45 AM
The weekend Premiership programme is a bit calmer without derbies and all the top of the table squads avoiding each other.

But Top 4 squads will be trying to make sure there are no slip-ups against lower placed squads.

There is not even a clear relegation clash  but with Blackpool, Fulham, Stoke and Birmingham within 3 points of the relegation zone the West Ham versus Blackpool will be interesting.

Saturday 13th November
12:45 Aston Villa vs Man Utd
Sir Alex Ferguson's Manchester United may have lost ground on leaders Chelsea following their turgid goalless draw against rivals City, but in the grand scheme of things a point away from home versus the big-spenders is not a poor result. Indeed, the Red Devils remain unbeaten and second place in the table.

They tackle Aston Villa in the Midlands next, a side that claimed a much-welcome victory last time out. Furthermore, the three goals scored versus leaky Blackpool were a boost following their previous bluntness in front of goal under boss Gerard Houllier. Villa occupy 10th following said result, while they will take heart from having picked up four points against United in the league last season.

15:00 Man City vs Birmingham
In one of six 3pm kick-offs, Manchester City will aim to prove their willingness to win when they meet Birmingham City. City boss Roberto Mancini has come in for some criticism for his tactics deployed against United as the match looked destined for a stalemate from the opening seconds.

20 West Ham 12 1 2 3 7 11 0 3 3 4 11 -11 8
The club sit fourth in the table but now trail the table-toppers by seven points. And their return of 15 goals scored from 12 fixtures is far from imposing, considering the financial outlay that has gone on in recent times. Nonetheless, Mancini will be hopeful of a scalp of Birmingham, who have yet to win on the road in the top-flight this term. The Blues are placed just one point above the drop zone, with just the one win achieved in their last 10 league fixtures.

15:00 Newcastle vs Fulham
Newcastle United are making a name for themselves as something of a Jekyll & Hyde team. Indeed, the Magpies followed up their impressive scalp of Arsenal with a home loss against Blackburn. It was not the first time that they followed a big result with a stumble.

That said, Chris Hughton's charges still lie fifth, an achievement that should not be overlooked. But the Newcastle boss will be wary there is still a long way to go. His team, who are without Joey Barton through suspension, welcome Fulham to St James' Park. The Cottagers' travelling support have endured much misery on the road. Indeed, Fulham have not won any of their last 24 Premier League away matches.

15:00 Tottenham vs Blackburn
Tottenham's slump in form was extended during midweek as they drew at home to Sunderland, making it four encounters without a league triumph while the club are now down to seventh. And just the 14 Premier League goals mustered so far this season is a surprising statistic when considering the creative options at manager Harry Redknapp's disposal.

Their opponents, Blackburn Rovers, recorded back-to-back league wins as Sam Allardyce triumphed at his former stamping ground on Wednesday and a third success on the spin could, in theory, lift the club up to as high as fifth. Allardyce could turn to want-away striker Jason Roberts, who has netted in his last two appearances.

15:00 West Ham vs Blackpool
On Saturday evening, Liverpool head to the Britannia Stadium for their clash against Stoke City. The Reds failed to make it four straight victories in the league as they were held at Wigan but nonetheless they are now unbeaten in four games - quite the turnaround considering they went five matches without a win prior to their current run.

The Potters, meanwhile, breathed a sigh of relief as they ended a pattern of four successive losses by beating Birmingham on Tuesday. Certainly at home is where Stoke remain the stronger, with three of their four triumphs this term coming at the Britannia Stadium. Yet, Tony Pulis' side have not won back-to-back Premier League home games since August 2009.

15:00 Wigan vs West Brom
Wigan Athletic claimed an admirable point against an in-form Liverpool side during midweek, but the Latics remain in the bottom three. Roberto Martinez's side are in action versus West Bromwich Albion who are also on something of an iffy run.

Indeed, between the two sides, the pair have mustered just two victories out of 15 league matches. But West Brom sit in a more comfortable 11th position in light of their encouraging return to the Premier League. And this is the Baggies' best ever start to a Premier League campaign by five points. Wigan's attacking prowess, meanwhile, is of alarming concern, with just nine goals to their name from 12 outings.

15:00 Wolverhampton vs Bolton
The over-riding theme of Wolverhampton Wanderers' season was continued on Wednesday as they put in a spirited display against Arsenal but ultimately left empty-handed. The club remain second from bottom in the table and are in action versus in-form Bolton Wanderers at Molineux this weekend. And it is unlikely Wolves will finish the weekend outside of the drop zone.

The Trotters, meanwhile, were denied an away win at Goodison Park at the death last time out, but climbed to sixth with the point gained. Furthermore, Owen Coyle's charges have tasted defeat just the once in their last eight league fixtures.

17:30 Stoke vs Liverpool

Sunday 14th November
14:00 Everton vs Arsenal
On Sunday, Sky Sports HD1 brings you live coverage of Everton's encounter against Arsenal. The Toffees are in excellent form having not lost any of their last seven league matches, with the club leaving it late to salvage a point from their clash versus Bolton.

The Gunners head into the game off the back of a hard-fought triumph at Wolves which helped them get back on track after their loss at home to Newcastle. Arsenal are third in the standings, a feat achieved partly down to their decent away record this campaign, with 11 points garnered on their travels. In the corresponding game last term, Arsenal emerged as astonishing 6-1 victors.

16:10 Chelsea vs Sunderland
Following the aforementioned game, on the same channel, champions Chelsea entertain Sunderland at Stamford Bridge. The Blues recovered from their setback on Merseyside as they saw off Fulham during midweek, although said triumph was tainted by the dismissal of key midfielder Michael Essien. Sunderland, meanwhile, have managed a return of seven points from a possible 12, with the club in eighth.

Yet they remain without a league win on the road this term, and it seems unlikely that record will be put right in London. Indeed, the Blues have not conceded a goal in the last 871 minutes of Premier League football at Stamford Bridge while Sunderland have only won one of their last 24 top flight away
