Man Utd (Red Devils)

(Nov '86
)

Games: 911 - W 56%, D 25%, L 19%
  • 13 wins in last 19 League and Cup games
  • Won 12 of last 16 Premiership matches
  • Drawn 3 of last 9 in all competitions
  • 2 draws in last 4 top flight encounters
  • Lost 2 of last 8 confrontations

  • Failed to score in 2 of last 8 contests
  • Failed to find the net in 1 of last 24 League clashes
  • 2 clean sheets in last 5
  • Managed 3 clean sheets in last 6 top tier League outings
  • UNBEATEN IN 10 PREMIERSHIP GAMES [8 wins, 2 draws]
  • SCORED IN EACH OF LAST 11 LEAGUE GAMES
  • UNDEFEATED IN 12 HOME TOP FLIGHT GAMES [10 wins, 1 draw]
  • Premiership leaders Arsenal do not entertain Everton until Sunday, so Manchester United have the opportunity to take over at the summit for 27 hours at least. They will leapfrog the Gunners and hit top spot for the first time this season with victory over mid table Fulham.
  • The Champions League Quarter-finalists, who had already qualified for the knock out stages before Tuesday's 2-0 defeat at Deportivo La Coruna when Sir Alex Ferguson sent out a virtual reserve line-up, lead the Premiership's form table with four wins and two draws from their last six - 14 points from the possible 18.
  • The Red Devils hold the strongest defensive record in the top flight, with just 27 goals conceded in 30 matches.
  • They face Fulham after successive Premiership victories over Leeds (2-1 h) and Aston Villa (0-1 a). The margin of victory for the latter should have been far wider than just a David Beckham goal.
  • The seven times Premier League champions have not lost a League game this year. Middlesbrough were the last team to take three points off them, winning 3-1 at the Riverside on Boxing Day. United's only home League defeat this season was 0-1 by Bolton on 11 September.
  • Manchester United's next three Premiership matches after this could go a long way to determining their title aspirations. They welcome Liverpool at Old Trafford on 5 April, go to Newcastle on the following Saturday and visit Arsenal on 15 April.

  • SCORED IN EACH OF LAST 8 PREMIERSHIP ENCOUNTERS
  • Fulham held United to a one-all draw in the reverse fixture in October when Ryan Giggs made his 500th appearance for the visitors. Although the Cottagers have lost their last seven League visits to Old Trafford and have not beaten them away for nearly 40 years, they did give them a scare in their first ever Premiership game in this corresponding fixture last season. Fulham led 1-3, but eventually lost 3-2.
  • Jean Tigana's team travel north in the hope of extending their unbeaten League run to six (3 wins, 2 draws) with a first away League win in 12 attempts, since the 0-3 victory at Sunderland on 14 September.
  • Bolton were the last club to deny Fulham a League goal. The match at the Reebok on 11 January was goalless.
  • The Cottagers still hold the worst disciplinary record in the top League. Six red and 43 yellow cards have been shown to Fulham players. They have also conceded more penalties in the Premiership than any other club (7).
  • Fulham's next game is home to Blackburn on Monday 7 April. Then they must travel to Liverpool five days later and host Newcastle on 19 April.

Head to Head

  • Only the second Premiership fixture between those clubs at Old Trafford. Last season Fulham were odd goal in five losers on their return to the top flight after an absence of 32 years.
  • Fulham have only recorded one away win over the Old Trafford giants since League hostilities began in 1922. That was a 0-2 success on April Fools Day 1963.
  • Man U have won the last seven corresponding fixtures, stretching back to 30 March 1964.
  • The Londoners' last win over United was in the old 2nd Division, a 2-1 success at Craven Cottage on 5 September, 1964.
  • United have gone 16 League and Cup games without defeat against the Cottagers.
These clubs have already played 103 games between them. This will be Fulham's 51st League and Cup fixture and Man U's 54th.
  • The match pits the club with the highest gates against the one with the lowest. United are the only club whose turnstiles have ticked over in excess of million times for Premier League games at an average of 67,583. Fulham have played one more home game than United. Their total attendance is just over a quarter of a million (267,132) at an average of a mere 16,696.
