West Brom's hopes of signing Zoltan Gera could be dashed following Fulham's appointment of Maarten Jol.

Ex-Baggies man Gera had made it clear that he would like to return to the Hawthorns this summer.

But Gera, who is out of contract, might now be kept on by Jol, who has been a long-standing admirer of the Hungarian midfielder.

Jol tried to sign Gera from Ferencvaros when he was boss of Spurs and his arrival at Craven Cottage might well change the landscape of the 32-year-old's future.

Gera's agent Vladan Filipovic told Hungarian newspaper Nemzeti Sport: "Maarten Jol knows and likes Gera's style, because when he was the manager of Tottenham, he wanted to sign Gera, who played in Hungary at the time.

"He would probably like to work with him now too.

"Until Gera signs his new contract, anything can happen - it could even be that he stays at Fulham."

The Baggies had also considered bidding for Andy Johnson initially but have since opted against pursuing the ex-Blues man.
