West Brom this week hope to close in on their pursuit of ex-Hawthorns hero Zoltan Gera.

The Baggies have held talks with the Hungarian, who is free to leave Fulham as a free agent.

Gera has been linked with moves elsewhere but indications are that he would be more than happy to return to B71.

The 32-year-old spent four years at Albion following a £1.5million move from Ferencvaros in 2004.

He became an instant Albion hero but left at the end of his contract following the club's title win three summers ago.

Albion actually offered him a competitive package at the time, with a better starting salary than was offered by Fulham, but the security of playing for an established top-flight club drew him to Craven Cottage.

Roy Hodgson was Fulham's boss at the time and remains on good terms with Gera, who fell out of favour with his successor Mark Hughes.

If all goes to plan Gera could re-sign for the club by the end of this week although there is no rush on anyone's part - not least as this is traditionally the quietest period before the summer transfer window re-opens.

Gera made 155 appearances for Albion, scoring 25 goals.
