Where is Peschisolido ?

QPR have denied newspaper reports that Paul Peschisolido has cut short his loan spell at the club and returned to Craven Cottage.

It was suggested the striker had returned to Fulham but this has been refuted by Rangers, who insist Peschisolido is still with them and will remain at Loftus Road until the end of his month's loan, when Gerry Francis will decide whether he wants to sign him.

Rangers have also reportedly been told that they will have to pay around £600,000 for Peschisolido. A fee had already been agreed when the Canadian joined Rangers on loan from Fulham, so it isn't a case of the club suddenly being ordered to pay that amount. The fee is also one Rangers can definitely meet but the real problem is putting together a wage package acceptable to Peschisolido while hoping that another club does not come in for him.

A key factor in Rangers' favour, that wasn't the case with the likes of Mikkel Beck and Mark Kennedy, is Peschisolido's age.

At 30, the player could well be tempted by a long-term contract even under reduced wages and with no signing-on fee, as that would mean that despite taking a pay cut he could later be earning much more than the average 33 or 34-year-old.

That was certainly the case when Gavin Peacock signed a new contract. This year for example, Peacock's wage is much less than it was last year but further down the line he is likely to be earning considerably more than most ex-Premiership players of the same age.

So it could well be that the length of contract offered to Peschisolido will decide whether or not he signs on a permanent basis - assuming, of course, that Francis wants him.
