Fulham went to St. James' Park in Newcastle and bossed Toon Town in their
own backyard. Jean Tigana's Black and White Army played as they had earlier
in the season with delightful passing and tackling.
Unfortunately the Cottagers were still not able to crack the striking problem
and when Newcastle's Dyer put them 1-0 up it looked like Fulham would have
to travel south pointless.
But as the game developed Fulham grew stronger and were the better of the
two sides. In the 77th minute Sky Man of the Match Sean Davis smashed a
ball goalward and Louis Saha got some of the luck he has been missing all
season and was able to knee the ball over the line.
Newcastle United were then put on the rack but again and again Fulham were
unable to convert the possession into goals.
An excellent result for Fulham as a defeat was expected and Premiership
survival is now virtually sure. Congratulations are due to Jean and the
lads for tonight's result.
