The Super Whites returned to winning ways
today with a welcome 2-1 victory over Gordon Strachan's Southampton.
Southampton have now only won twice in their 24 visits to Craven Cottage
and they never really looked like winning on this visit. Fulham played with
a lot more verve than in recent weeks and with a modicum of luck or accuracy
we could have had 5 or more goals. Of the attackers Bazza Hayles always
looked dangerous and worked hard in breaking up opposition moves. In midfield
Luis Boa Morte and Steed Malbranque, who got both Fulham goals, played perhaps
their best games so far. The defence was a bit on the quiet side but did
the necessary with only one really scary moment when they all stopped playing
because they thought a Southampton player was offside while the Ref and
Linesman did not.
Other games
With Middlesboro and Charlton losing on Saturday and West Ham unexpectedly
winning 3-2 away at Ipswich on Sunday Fulham move into 14th place in the
Premiership with 11 points from 10 games played. This means we are just
10 points away from going top!! COME ON YOU WHITES

Aston Villa
went to the top of the table after succeeding where others failed

Man
Utd (0) 1 Leeds
(0) 1
Leeds maintained the only unbeaten record in the Premiership
after a 1-1 draw in a thriller with Manchester United in front
of a packed Old Trafford. Leeds, who have not won at the Theatre of
Dreams for 20 years, went in front when Mark Viduka hooked in a diagonal
ball from Ian Harte after 77 minutes. But 'supersub' Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
rescued Sir Alex Ferguson's side when he came on to outjump Harte
and head in a Ryan Giggs cross to equalise with only a minute left.
In time added on the champions might have won it but for a magnificent
save from Nigel Martyn who pushed aside Ruud van Nistelrooy's header.

Derby
(1) 1
Chelsea (0) 1
Derby and Chelsea shared the spoils in a thrilling 1-1 draw at Pride
Park. Home goalkeeper Mart Poom was the hero of the day as
a stunning performance kept his side in the game. Colin Todd's team
had taken the lead as early as the seventh minute when Fabrizio
Ravanelli tucked home his seventh goal of the campaign. He looked
to be standing in an offside position after Mark Bosnich had saved
from Darryl Powell, but after he placed the rebound beyond the Australian,
the flag stayed down. Chelsea looked to respond quickly and Poom
was on hand to deny Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, before the Dutchman
missed a golden opportunity when missing Slavisa Jokanovic's inviting
centre with just the Estonian stopper to beat. However, Hasselbaink
did find the net three minutes after the break when he drilled a
low shot past Poom from the edge of the area.

Ipswich (0)2 West
Ham (1) 3
West Ham put their away-day blues behind them to record a
first FA Barclaycard Premiership victory on the road this season
as they beat Ipswich 3-2 at Portman Road. The Hammers'
travel sickness had seen them concede an incredible 12 goals in
their previous two sorry trips, to Everton and Blackburn. But goals
from strike pairing Paolo di Canio and Freddie Kanoute, after Hermann
Hreidarsson had volleyed in an equaliser, ensured the three points
at Portman Road. Then, substitute Jermain Defoe and Ipswich captain
Matt Holland both netted in injury-time.
Ipswich:

Holland, Reuser, Wright (Magilton 87), Stewart, Armstrong (Counago

Blackburn
(11) v Leicester
(20)
Leicester manager Dave Bassett could be boosted by the return
of central defender Gary Rowett recovering from a knee problem. Bassett
said: "He has responded to treatment. It looked initially as if it
would be a three week job but with rest it seems to have calmed down
and he feels a lot better. He is optimistic he will be okay for Blackburn."
Striker Dean Sturridge is ruled out with a hamstring injury but fit-again
James Scowcroft is vying for a place after a full week's training.
Ade Akinbiyi will lead the attack at Ewood Park despite his recent
lack of touch in front of goal making him a target for the City boo
boys. The Foxes are rock bottom of the Premiership with just five
points and Dave Bassett has just replaced the sacked Peter Taylor
as manager.
Damien Duff is Blackburn's only absentee and he is still sidelined
with his hamstring injury.
