Fulham have submitted an improved £14m bid for Southampton defender Matt Targett as the London club refuse to back down in their pursuit of the full-back, according to reports.
Targett had a fruitful loan spell with Fulham last season and helped them to clinch promotion to the Premier League with numerous assured performances at the back.
The left-back is on the top of Fulham’s transfer wish list but the Saints are reluctant to let the 22-year-old leave on a permanent basis.
They have already rejected several offers made by Fulham this summer but with the bid being considerably increased to £14m, Mark Hughes may be tempted to cash in on the left-back.
Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic was hugely impressed by Targett’s performances last season and wants him to be a part of their Premier League campaign.
Selling Targett could provide funds to help Hughes as the Saints are hoping to complete some deals of their own before the transfer window slams shut tomorrow evening.
