Fulham have opened talks to re-sign Huddersfield Town defender Terence Kongolo, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The Terriers are willing to let the versatile centre-back, 25, leave during this transfer window as they look to raise much-needed cash.

A Fulham sources has told Football Insider that the club are negotiating the permanent signing of the Holland international.

Kongolo spent the second half of last season at the west London club but only played two matches due to a foot injury.

He missed the rest of the campaign after breaking down in February just nine minutes into his Championship debut for Fulham.

Nevertheless, Fulham have seen enough of the four-times Holland international to work on a permanent deal and are hopeful of securing an agreement.

Huddersfield broke their then transfer record to sign Kongolo in the summer of 2018 after he initially impressed while on loan from Monaco.

He made 32 Premier League appearances in his first season, standing out as one of the club’s shining lights despite their relegation to the Championship.

Kongolo struggled for game time in the first half of last season and opted to leave midway through the campaign after being snubbed by ex-Terriers boss Danny Cowley.

Kongolo can play at centre-back or left-back, and was used in both positions by the Yorkshire club in the opening months of last season.

The defender has a contract with Huddersfield that runs until the summer of 2022.
