Newly promoted Premier League club Fulham are looking to lure Joe Bennett away from Cardiff City this summer.

Fulham are prepared to meet Bennett’s release clause again this summer in their second bid to land the full-back.

The Cottagers met Bennett’s release clause last summer but the 28-year-old decided to stay put in South Wales.

It proved to be a wise decision, too, with the Bluebirds beating Fulham to automatic promotion. Though both teams would end up secure promotion with Jokanovic’s men winning the play-offs.

According to the Daily Mail, Fulham will go back in for Bennett this summer and they are willing to meet his £2 million release clause once again.

Once that clause is triggered, Cardiff City are obliged to allow Fulham to talk to the player, who can then make his own mind up.

Having said that, the Bluebirds are free to make a counter offer, potentially removing a release clause from a new contract or raising the fee required.

Neil Warnock is a big fan of the full-back and he wont want to lose him going into the Premier League where Bennett, unlike many of his team-mates, has experience.

It’s also believed that Joe Bennett wont want to depart South Wales this summer having settled in nicely with his family since his move from Aston Villa in 2016.

Bennett was a big part of the Bluebirds’ promotion bid – making 41 appearances in all competitions – and equally the celebrations that followed.

He was one of a number of players to turn down moves last season despite being offered better deals, along with captain Sean Morrison.

Fulham, meanwhile, are keen to strengthen their defensive line after losing Ryan Fredericks to West Ham United.

Cardiff City may now need to move quickly to offer him a new deal to ensure he stays in place ahead of their first season back in the top flight.
