Fulham boss Kit Symons reveals the next Hangeland and Hughes - or so he hopes

Tim Ream and Richard Stearman were then bisected by Tony Watt running through at the death, with only a last-ditch Stearman tackle preventing three points becoming none on Sunday.

But Symons, former Whites stalwart at the back himself, insists there is reason to believe his £4million pair will be as good as Brede Hangeland and Aaron Hughes - a terrific partnership that took the Whites to a Europa League Cup final in 2010.

"It's very early days for the boys, but I would like to think with time they could be up with Hughes and Hangeland," Symons said. "Knowing they would compliment each other, they were signed as a pair.

"Once they've got a better understanding, they will help the rest of the back four get a better understanding - and then the rest of the team as well."
