Fulham have moved up into 14th in the Premiership with 9 points after their enjoyable thrashing of Liverpool last week. Although an excellent result it was only the second victory for Fulham so far this season. A similar points/games ratio for the rest of the season would result in probable relegation for The Cottagers. Hopefully Liverpool was the start of a trend.Wigan will still be pinching themselves with an outstanding 19 points and 4th place after 9 games in their first season in the Premiership.Fulham will be pleased that behind their 14th place is an above average performance in the last third of the game. Being 4th best in terms of attempted shots on goal is a great advantage and starting point. The quality of the shots and the conversion rate still needs work as less than 36% of shots are on target and just 9% have resulted in a goal. But many of the other squads in the Premiership would be glad to have Fulham's "problem". Surprisingly although Wigan have bagged 19 points they are less active in front of goal and only slightly more productive in terms of goals.Midfield activity such as passing, crossing and tackling remains in line with Fulham's overall position in the league but again surprisingly Wigan do noticeably less well in these aspect's of the game. Defensively Wigan are outstanding with just 5 goals

conceded in comparison to Fulham's 14. Although it might indicate a lack of quality in the Wigan squad the stats do not show a rough house team like Blackburn for example. Wigan have committed less fouls than Fulham and the men in the middle have judged them as less cautionable than most other teams. Chris Coleman was appointed Fulham manager in April 2003 so he has had enough time to apply his ideas and ensure that the Cottagers' overall performance is to his liking. This season the number of attempted shots has improved dramatically with a three season high of 4th busiest shooters in the Premiership. Unfortunately accuracy and conversion rates is at a three season low. There has also been a noticeable increase in the number of crosses but the percentage accuracy level has dropped as noticeablyFulham need not be scared going to Wigan but their defence does need to tighten up.
