Fulham midfielder Scott Parker has backed Martin Jol to ride out the storm at Craven Cottage.

The Fulham boss is under pressure and Saturday's 1-1 draw with West Brom was met with calls for him to leave from sections of the Whites crowd.

Jol would have claimed his first home win of the season had Gareth McCauley not powered home an injury-time leveller to infuriate the home fans.

One win from their opening four games is not a great return but Jol came out fighting at the weekend and claimed supporters need to be realistic.

Parker believes 'small steps' are needed in order for the club to progress and reckons Jol puts pressure on himself to push the team on.

He said: "I think, like anyone, the manager puts pressure on himself. We all do really. We all want to get the results and we're striving to get them.

"I'm sure if we carry on the way we're going and we keep improving [we'll be okay]. There's vast improvements week-in-week-out. Hopefully, if we keep taking it in small steps, the results will come."

Fulham lie 13th in the Barclays Premier League and summer signing Parker is confident the Cottagers will soon be smiling once again.

He added: "It was very disappointing that we didn't get the result in the end. I think the performance was pretty good to be fair. We absolutely dominated the first-half and deserved to go 1-0 up.

"In the second-half we came under the cosh a little bit, which you'd probably expect having dominated so much, it often goes that way. I still thought we had the edge though and probably deserved the result."
