Premiership Newcastle are reported to have made an improved offer of £5million for Fulham midfielder Luis Boa Morte leading to the Club and the Portuguese star having words.

Yesterday United Chairman Freddy Shepherd finally got around to making an improved offer for Boa Morte after his "final" offer of £3.5m was rejected by The Cottagers some weeks ago.

Newcastle seem to be getting more desperate as the start of the season approaches due to deficiencies in their goal getting ability and the failure to sign a number of Manager Souness', summer targets.

Sources at the London club were trying to play down the possibility of a Newcastle offer with Manager Chris Coleman stating that Luis Boa Morte and Steed Malbranque, another summer transfer target for Premiership clubs, were happy at Fulham and would not be leaving this close to the start of the season.

The Portugal international, with his agent, discussed the offer with Club representatives yesterday where it was reiterated that Boa Morte would not be allowed to move less than £6 million.
