Fulham striker Bryan Ruiz insists he feels no pressure to justify his big price tag after his multi-million pound move to the London club.

Ruiz signed from FC Twente on deadline day but has failed to open his scoring account for the Cottagers and missed a penalty in their League Cup shootout defeat to Chelsea.

The Costa Rican was denied by a fingertip save from West Brom goalkeeper Ben Foster on Saturday in his side's goalless draw in the Midlands.

Asked if he felt pressure to justify his reported £10 million fee, Ruiz told reporters: "No. Not really.

"I'm just going to do my best and show my quality. I hope people will see me at my best very soon. I need to play. For sure I need to play.

"I feel good. I'm fit. I know I can play 90 minutes in the Premier League. I played for 120 minutes against Chelsea and that has helped me. If I play more matches, I will get more confidence from that.

"[The manager] has said to me that he knows it will take some time for me to adapt. But I'm here to play.

"Everyone who knows me, knows that I want to play. I'm working hard in training to get my rhythm and hopefully I'll play some more in the next match."

Ruiz said he was enjoying the anonymity which came from living in a city where few recognised him, but said there had been a big reaction in his homeland over his move.

He added: "Everyone is really happy for me that I'm playing in England."
