Fulham's encounter with Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday evening finished 2-0 after strikes from Peter Crouch and David Bentley consigned Roy Hodgson's men to a fourth straight league defeat.

The Cottagers rarely troubled Spurs on the night but Hodgson believes his side were unfortunate with the nature of the goals.

"We were a little bit unlucky, especially the second goal that was a cruel deflection, and I thought in the second half we certainly evened the game out [with] possession in the middle of the park and getting up into the final third was probably every bit as good as theirs," he said after the match.

Hodgson conceded though that the second goal turned the game decisively in the hosts' favour.

He continued: "The second goal meant they could relax that well. Had we not conceded that goal, had it stayed at 1-0, we could have been looking even more dangerous than we were."

Hodgson also had a word on the transfer saga involving Chris Smalling, with Manchester United and Arsenal thought to be battling for his signature.

He said: "The club have accepted an offer from Manchester United. As far as I'm aware, that's where he is going."
