Referee Michael Salisbury from Penwortham, South Ribble, Lancashire, started refereeing in the local leagues in Preston in 2001 after being inspired by his dad Graham, who has just retired after 588 Football League games.

The 36-year-old former PE teacher began refereeing in the Football League during the 2016-17 season, having only been appointed to the Vanarama National League Referee a mere 12 months earlier.

He was appointed to the Select group 2 of full time referees in summer 20/21 after leaving his role at Parklands High School in Chorley and one year later joined the Select Group 1 of full time Premiership referees.

This will be only the second time Mr Salisbury has bossed a Fulham game.

The first time was in October 2021 when we beat West Brom 3-0 at The Cottage in the Championship. Mr Salisbury yellow carded three West Brom players and also sent of one player from each team, the Fulham player was Tosin Adarabioyo.

Mr Salisbury last refed a Sunderland game in May 2021 when they won 2-1 against Lincoln in a League One play off game, he booked two players from each team. Sunderland lost 2-3 over the two legs.

Last season, 21/22, he refed 21 games and dished out 67 yellows and 5 red, so an average of 3.2 yellows per game.

His busiest game in recent times was the Crystal Palace vrs Southampton game when he booked three players from each team.
