Referee Michael Salisbury |
Referee Michael Salisbury from Penwortham, South Ribble, Lancashire, started refereeing in the local leagues in Preston in 2001 after being inspired by his dad Graham, who has just retired after 588 Football League games.
The 36-year-old former PE teacher began refereeing in the Football League during the 2016-17 season, having only been appointed to the Vanarama National League Referee a mere 12 months earlier.
He was appointed to the Select group 2 of full time referees in summer 20/21 after leaving his role at Parklands High School in Chorley and one year later joined the Select Group 1 of full time Premiership referees.
The most recent time Mr Salisbury refed a Fulham game was in September 2023 when we beat Luton Town 1-0 at The Cottage. He booked two players from each team, Fulham's two were Timothy Castagne and Issa Diop, both for fouls. Carlos Vinicius was our goal scorer.
Prior to the Luton game Mr Salisbury refed Fulham in January 2023 when we drew 1-1 at home to Sunderland in the FA Cup 4th round. Mr Salisbury booked two players from each team, the Fulham men were Harry Wilson and Layvin Kurzawa, both for fouls. Tom Cairney scored Fulham's goal.
Mr Salisbury first visit to Fulham was in October 2021 when we
beat West Brom 3-0 at The Cottage in the Championship. Mr Salisbury yellow carded three West Brom players and also sent off one player from each team, the Fulham player was Tosin Adarabioyo.
Mr Salisbury last refed a Brighton game back in October 2022 when they lost 2-0 away at Brentford. Four players were booked, one from the Brighton squad..
Last season, 22/23, he refed 31 games and dished out 110 yellows and 4 red, so an average of 3.5 yellows per game.
His busiest game in recent times was the Wolves vrs Leeds game in March 2023 when he booked three Wolves players and five Leeds players. He also sent off a Wolves player in the 84th minute and red carded an unused Wolves sub!!
