53-year-old ref Roger East started refereeing after a ref said to him in a game ‘you have a lot to say for yourself, you should be a referee’. He progressed through the refereeing ranks via two years in the Wessex league, six years in the Southern League and then National League level, rising to the National List as an assistant in 2000.
He has been on the National list since 2006 and after impressing during the 2012/13 season he earned a permanent spot in the Select Group of officials from the 2013/14 season. Ref East has now accumulated over 50 Premier League matches as a referee.
The last time Mr East refed a Fulham game was the 1-0 defeat by Derby in the first leg of the Play Off Semi-Final last season. He booked two Derby players and Fulham's Johansen all for fouls
He last refed an Everton game earlier last season in March when they won 2-0 at home to Brighton. He yellow carded one Brighton player and sent another off in the 80th minute.
Last season he refed 29 games and dished out 95 yellows and 3 reds, so an average 3.3 yellows per game.
His busiest game recently was the 2-2 draw between QPR and Millwall when he yellow carded seven players, two from QPR and five from Millwall, and also sent off a Millwall player in the 41st minute.
