Referee Lee Mason started refereeing when he was 17 years old in the Bolton Boys' Federation League. He became a Football League referee in 2002 and joined the Premier League list of Select Group Referees in 2006.
Mr Mason has been involved in a number of controvertial decisions including one involving Fulham.
In 2009 he was handed a one-week demotion to the role of fourth official after his handling of a match between Fulham and Liverpool in which he sent off Liverpool players Jamie Carragher and Philipp Degen; Fulham ultimately won the fixture 3–1.
Coincidentally one week later 9 man Fulham were robbed of victory in Rome,
while playing in the Europa Cup, Paul Konchesky and Erik Nevland were both sent off for fouls.
Mr Mason had been an infrequent visitor to Fulham games only refing five games in the last six years but
now all of a sudden he is getting ready for his second Fulham game in twelve
days.
His most recent Fulham game was our 2-0 home win against Sheffield Wednesday in the Carabao Cup. He booked one player from each team, Fulham's Denis Odoi was booked for a foul.
Prior to the Wednesday game Mr Mason refed the 3-1 away defeat at West Ham in February 2019. Mr Mason booked one player from each team, the Fulham player was Joe Bryan who was booked for a foul. Fulham were winning 1-0 when Ref Mason failed to see Javier Hernandez punch home West Ham's equalising goal.
In the 1-0 home win against Reading in April 2018 he again booked one player from each team, the Fulham player this time was Matt Targett, booked for a foul in the 60th minute. Mr Mason also sent off a Reading player in the 90th minute. Targett also set up the 25th minute goal by Stefan Johansen.
Mr Mason's other game in that season was Fulham's 2-1 away win at Derby County when he booked Johansen (60,f) and Mitrovic (74,f).
Prior to that game he had only refed Fulham twice since our relegation from the Premiership, one in 2016 and one in 2014
In October 2016 when Fulham were beaten 2-1 at home by QPR, he booked two Fulham players, Malone and Ream, and three QPR players.
Prior to that game Mr Mason had stayed away from Fulham for nearly two years. That visit was in August 2014 when we were beaten 1-0 at home by Millwall. He booked three players, all from Fulham, Hoogland, Bodurov, Stafylidis.
Mr Mason last refed Wolves in October 2019 when they were beaten 2-1 away at Aston Villa and only one player was booked, Aston Villa's John McGinn.
Last season he refed 26 games and dished out 80 yellows and 1 red, so a below average 3.1 yellows per game.
Ref Mason's busiest game recently was in January 2020 when he booked seven players in the Sheffield United vrs Manchester City game. He booked four United players and three City players.
