John Brooks started refereeing in 2004 in local leagues throughout Leicestershire, when he was 14.
In 20014/15 he started refereeing in the Conference League, moved up to the Football League in season 2016-17 and then the Championship in 2018/19.
He became part of the Select Group 2 of full time referees in 19/20, meaning that he can officiate matches at Premier League and Football League level, whilst he also joined the FIFA International Referees List as an assistant referee earlier 20/21.
Ref Brooks was promoted to the Select Group 1 at the start of the 2021/2022 season.
Fulham were last refed by Mr Brooks in November 2023 when we lost 1-0 at home to Man Utd. He booked seven players five of them from the Fulham squad, Antonee Robinson (31,f), Joao Palhinha (66,dis), Alex Iwobi (82,f), Harry Wilson (85,f) and Raul Jimenez (97,dis).
Last season, 2022/2023, Mr Brooks refed Fulham in October 2022 when we drew 0-0 at home to Everton. He booked two Fulham players, Aleksandar Mitrovic and Bobby De Cordova-Reid, both for fouls, and one Everton player. Fulham's 24 shots against Everton was their most in a single Premier League game without scoring (since 2003/04).
In August of the same season, 22/23,Mr Brooks refed Fulham when we drew 0-0 away at Wolves, he booked six players including Harrison Reed, Joao Palhinha, for fouls, and Aleksandar Mitrovic for arguing. Mitrovic had a penalty saved in the 80th minute.
Mr Brooks previously bossed Fulham in the 1-1 away draw at Wigan in July 2020. He booked seven players four of which were from Fulham, Denis Odoi, Josh Onomah, Neeskens Kebano and Michael Hector all for fouls. Neeskens Kebano was Fulham's goal scorer
Earlier in that season in October 2019 he refed the 3-2 home victory over Luton . He booked one piayer, Tom Cairney for a foul in the 73rd minute. Aleksandar Mitrovic scored all three Fulham goals
The last time Ref Brooks bossed an Everton gamea was last season in February 2024 when they lost 2-0 away at Man City. He booked two players both from the Everton squad.
Last season he officiated at 35 matches issuing 148 yellow cards and 6 reds, so 4.2 yellows per game.
His busiest game in recent times was Liverpool vrs Chelsea last week when he dished out seven yellows. He is not liked at Goodison Park.
