Referee Stuart Attwell made history as the youngest Premier League referee at 25 years old when he took charge of Blackburn and Hull in August 2008.
Ref Attwell graduated from Staffordshire University in 2004. Refereeing had been a lifelong ambition for him, according to his father. Attwell worked his way up from local games to non-League football, then to the West Midlands League and the Football League.
He was promoted to the Select Group of referees for the 2016/17 season following consistent refereeing displays since being demoted as a National List official in 2012.
Ref Attwell became infamous for, amongst other controversial decisions, the ghost goal for Reading at Watford in 2008 when the ball clearly went wide of the post. He was suspended from the Premier League for two years
He last refed Fulham in December 2023 when we were edged out 4-3 away at Liverpool. Mr Attwell kept his cards in his pocket.
His previous Fulham game was in August 2023 when we won 1-0 away at Everton. He booked two players, both from Fulham, Willian for a fouls and Kenny Tete for time wasting in the 87th minute. Bobby Decordova-Reid, who was making his 400th senior appearance, 157 for Fulham, scored Fulham's goal. Marco Silva was booked in the 92 minute for over enthusiastically claiming for a penalty.
Prior to the Everton game Mr Attwell was the ref when we lost 1-0 away at Liverpool in May 2023. Mr Attwell kept his cards in his pockets.
A couple of months earlier, February 2023, Ref Attwell was in charge when we drew 0-0 away at Chelsea. He booked five players four of them from Fulham, Joao Palhinha (22,f), Andreas Pereira (51,f), Bobby De Cordova-Reid (67,f), Harry Wilson (90+3,f).
Ref Attwell also bossed the Fulham game in September 2022 when we lost 2-1 away at Tottenham and Mr Attwell booked SEVEN players, four Fulham players and three Tottenham players. Aleksandar Mitrovic scored Fulham's goal.
Two years prior to the Tottenham game, in September 2020, Mr Attwell refed the game when we were beaten 3-0 away at Aston Villa. He booked NINE players, six of them Fulham players, BobbyCordova-Reid (11,f), Tom Cairney (23,f), Joe Bryan (45+3,f), Denis Odoi (47,f), Maxime Le Marchand (68,f) and AboubakarKamara (90+1,arg).
Mr Attwell's previous game with Fulham was in September 2018 in the 3-0 away defeat at Man City . Mr Attwell chose to keep his cards firmly in his pockets.
Mr Attwell also refed a Fulham game in May 2018 during the 3-1 away defeat at Birmingham in the last game of the season, it dropped Fulham into the Playoffs from the automatic promotion places. He booked two players from Birmingham and Kamara (47,f), Odoi (49,f), McDonald (70,f) of Fulham.
Prior to this Mr Attwell refed Fulham in May 2017 during the1-1 home draw with ruffians Reading in the first leg of the playoffs. He booked two players from each team, Malone (54,d), McDonald (56,f) for Fulham, and sent off a Reading player in the 80th minute.
Mr Attwell last refed West Ham in October 2023 when they lost 1-0 at home to Everton. He booked five players, four from the West Ham squad.
Last season he refed 29 games and dished out 104 yellows and 3 reds so an average of 3.6 yellows per game. This season so far he has refed 21 games dishing out 87 yellows and four reds, so an average of 4.1 yellows per game.
His busiest league game in recent times was the Man Utd v N. Forest game in August 2023 when he booked eight players, four from each team. and also sent off a Forest player in the 67th minute.
