Nottingham Forest are working on a deal to bring Swiss international Pajtim Kasami to the City Ground.
The midfielder is understood to be in talks over a potential move from Olympiacos. Forest are believed to be keen on a permanent move for the player, but would not rule out a loan switch.
The 24-year-old cost the Greek club 3.5m euros when he moved there from Fulham in the summer of 2014, but has found himself on the periphery of things this summer, with head coach Victor Sanchez not thought to regard him as part of his plans.
Ironically the attitude of Sanchez – previously a target for Forest before they appointed Philippe Montanier as head coach – could now work in Forest's favour, if they can successfully get a deal over the line.
It is now clear that Forest's primary target is Kasami, who has made 48 starts and 10 sub appearances for Olympiacos, scoring seven goals, in the last two seasons with the club.
Kasami previously had a three-year spell in the Premier League, with Fulham, making 33 starts and 22 sub appearances for the London club, netting three goals.
He has also played for Grasshoppers, Liverpool and Lazio as a youth player, before making his first team debut in Switzerland with Bellinzona.
He signed a five-year contract with Palermo in the summer of 2010, before moving to Fulham a year later, for an undisclosed fee.
Kasami has played 12 times for Switzerland, scoring two goals, after previously representing them at under-17, under-18, under-21 and under-23 level.
