The Danish international has moved across the capital to sign a three-year contract with The Cottagers after deciding he wanted a fresh challenge.
Jensen had spent the past four seasons with Charlton after joining from Bolton Wanderers and he made over 100 appearances for The Addicks.
But he had only one year remaining on his contract at The Valley and has accepted the switch to Craven Cottage.
Addicks boss Alan Curbishley admits he opted to cash in on the 27-year-old when the midfielder showed no inclination to sign a new deal with the club.
"Claus had one year remaining on his contract and made it clear to us that he didn't wish to renew his contract and that he no longer wanted to play for the club, as he felt he needed a new challenge," Curbishley told Charlton's official website.
"From the minute Claus was approached by Fulham, it was clear that he wanted to join them."
Jensen feels he has made the correct decision in linking up with Chris Coleman's side in West London.
"Having spoken to Chris Coleman and seeing the facilities here at Fulham, I am more than happy to have made the switch from South to West London and believe it is the right move for me at this stage of my career," Jensen told Fulham's official website.
Coleman is confident Jensen will prove to be a valuable addition to his midfield, particularly after losing Sean Davis to Tottenham earlier this month.
The Cottagers boss said: "I am delighted to welcome Claus to Fulham. He has had a great career in The Premiership so far, being a valuable member of both Bolton and Charlton's teams over a number of years.
"I know that he will add a great deal to the squad in terms of passing ability and his dead ball prowess and I look forward to him becoming an important part of next season's campaign."
Coleman denied the Dane had been recruited as a replacement for Sean Davis, who joined Tottenham earlier this month.
He insisted: They are two different players. Sean was more of a box-to-box man while Claus is better suited to an attacking role.
Jensen, an attacking and goalscoring midfielder who made his mark at Danish club Lyngby, was brought to England by former Bolton Wanderers manager Colin Todd. His fine performances, workrate and technical skill brought him to the attention of a host of other clubs and he proved a stylish link with the Bolton forwards, creating plenty of goals.
Alan Curbishley won the race to land the Danish Under-21 international, paying £4million to bring him to The Valley in the summer of 2000. That was then the record transfer fee for the club. He will best remember his strike in a 4-2 win at Highbury in November 2001. It was a superb effort which flew into the corner of the net from a tight angle and almost earned the tag of 'goal of the season' for the Premiership.
Jensen had injury problems throughout the 2001/02 campaign, however he remained a vital Addicks star throughout 2002/03 and 2003/04, passing 100 Premiership starts for the club. The midfield star was named in Denmark's squad for Euro 2004.
