Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic opened his account for the Whites on Wednesday night against Bristol City and says that he has loved the support so far from the Fulham faithful.

The Serbian international tucked away Cyrus Christie’s neat ball through just 14 minutes into the game but Bobby Reid replied before the half came to a close to level the scores.

“It was a tough game but I think in the end a point was not bad,” Mitrovic told fulhamfc.com, “We could've won, we could've lost but I think in the end a point was fair for both teams.”

The 23-year-old on loan from Newcastle United bagged his first goal on his second start for the Club, and was pleased to get off the mark.

Tom Cairney sprayed the ball wide right and Christie cut in before picking out a pass that sliced the Bristol City defence wide open, with Mitrovic at the back post to slam it in.

He said: “It’s my job to score goals so I tried to be in the box to think where the ball would go and I was right so I made good movement in a good moment and it was a tap in.

“It was a good ball from Cyrus and I was really happy to get my first goal and I hope I will continue.

“It is important as well because my job is to score so I wanted to break that barrier but for me at this moment I want to help my team and to fight for every ball and to try to help them to win the game.

“I try to do my best to score goals but the team is most important and I think we are good, we showed good character.

“It was not an easy away game and they have beaten big teams this season like Manchester United, and Manchester City really struggled, and in the end we nearly won, we could have lost but the point was fair enough for both teams.”

In a World Cup year, playing regular football was important to the Serbian and he is grateful to have the opportunity to prove his calibre to the national team.

“I’ve been starting games and I feel I am getting better and better, I’m getting sharper, I feel my movements are better and I hope I will get better and better as the season goes.

“I’m really happy to be here, I feel good and I hope I can help the team as much as I can, my job is to score goals and I will try to help my teammates with this,” said Mitrovic.

On Saturday Fulham’s difficult run of fixtures continues but Mitrovic expects a similarly raucous atmosphere to the Aston Villa game to spur the team on against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

“Every game is difficult in this league, there are no easy games. We don’t have much time to prepare, we don’t have so much time to recover so we tried to recover the best way we can, to prepare mentally and tactically for this game so we are ready.

“We are at home and we want to try to win every game this season, it’s not going to be easy but we are ready.

“It’s always nice to play when you have the fans behind you from the first minute and it makes it even harder for the opponent and against Villa it was a really amazing atmosphere.

“I’ve played two home games now and both times the fans were amazing, I really enjoy it and I hope it stays like this, especially because we need them now as it’s not long until the end of the season, only 13 more games and we need them behind us.

“They were also really good in Bristol, there were a lot of away fans and it was a long way to travel and this is always motivation to give 100 per cent because you know they are behind you and they will support you,” said Mitrovic.
