Fulham striker Ross McCormack is ready to start justifying his £11million transfer fee after losing a stone in weight since joining Fulham from Leeds.

McCormack has been placed on a special fitness programme by Felix Magath, who was unhappy with the forward's condition when he moved to Craven Cottage. The weight loss plan has seen McCormack shed the pounds and he scored his first Fulham goal against Brentford to help ease some of the pressure on his manager.

"The fitness work here is different to any fitness work I have done in the past," said McCormack. "I was doing three or four extra sessions a day in pre-season and maybe I am seeing the benefits of that now.

"The manager said, 'Maybe your weight is a bit high and we will help you get it down'. It was not as if he sat me down and said, 'You must lose weight or you will not play'. He has got a different sense of honour to a few managers I have had in the past but that is fine.

"I have lost a stone. That has been good and I am getting a few games under my belt now so my sharpness is coming back. I had a calf injury during pre-season but now I am getting to a level of fitness where the manager thinks I should be.

"I can't do anything about the price tag. I have taken a bit of banter from fans around different grounds but the price is between the two clubs. I can only affect what I do on the pitch. Last season I scored a lot of goals and it has been frustrating here because I have not even had a chance, let alone a goal. So it was nice to score against Brentford."
