Fulham exited the Carabao Cup after falling victim to a second Crystal Palace smash-and-grab of the season.
The Whites were by far the more positive of the sides at Craven Cottage on Wednesday night but were unable to find a way past England goalkeeper Dean Henderson, meaning Eddie Nketiah’s poacher’s finish in the first half proved the difference.
Fulham dominated the opening stages with some slick passages of play, though without troubling the returning Henderson in the away goal, but Kenny Tete was unfortunate to send his powerful header from an Alex Iwobi corner the wrong side of the post after quarter of an hour.
Antonee Robinson then immediately drew the first save of the game from Henderson, who repelled the full-back’s first time shot with his legs after he had been found in space by Sander Berge.
Fulham continued to turn the screw and threatened again with another corner, this time with Joachim Andersen heading Oscar Bobb’s delivery over.
The opener came out of absolutely nothing, with Palace’s first foray into the Fulham half, as Oscar Mingueza had time to bend in a peach of a cross for Nketiah to attack and divert beyond Benjamin Lecomte.
Berge had a shot deflect over as we searched for a response before the break, seconds after Palace were fortunate not to be penalised for a high boot towards the face of Robinson in the penalty area.
The Eagles showed more positivity at the start of the second half, but it was Fulham who threatened first, with Rodrigo Muniz firing straight at Henderson from 20 yards after Bobb had snatched possession.
Substitute Tom Cairney thought he’d equalised only for Chris Richards to make a stellar block, before Iwobi was somehow denied from point blank range by Henderson at a corner.
A rare Palace venture into our box threatened a second when Yeremy Pino slipped Dwight McNeil in, but Lecomte read the danger and was out quickly to smother.
A couple more chances fell the way of the Eagles, with Lecomte saving comfortably from McNeil before Daichi Kamada stabbed wide with what was their only clear-cut opening of the entire evening.
Fulham had one more opportunity to take the tie to penalties when Gonzalo García rose highest in the box, but his downward header was beaten away by Henderson, and with that came the conclusion of our 2026/27 Carabao Cup campaign.
