Fulham were beaten 2-0 by Everton in a disappointing first trip to their new Hill Dickinson Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The hosts had already had two goals ruled out for offside when they broke the deadlock in first half stoppage time, Idrissa Gueye capitalising on a loose ball in the box.

The Whites rallied after the break and forced Jordan Pickford into several good stops, but Michael Keane’s slightly controversial effort from a corner wrapped things up for the Merseysiders.

Marco Silva made just one change to the XI that defeated Wolves a week earlier, with Saša Lukic preferred to Josh King in midfield, meaning a more advanced role for former Toffee Alex Iwobi.

Everton had all the possession in the early stages and threatened a fifth minute lead when Thierno Barry looked set to beat Bernd Leno to Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s defence-splitting pass, but Ryan Sessegnon came from nowhere to make a superb interception.

Barry did get his effort away a minute later when he got behind Joachim Andersen to meet Iliman Ndiaye’s cross from the right, but he couldn’t get over the ball and headed some way off target.

After Lukic picked up the game’s first booking for a foul on Dewsbury-Hall 30 yards out – a card that means a suspension for the Sunderland fixture – James Garner drew a fine save from Leno after finding the top corner with his firm free-kick.

Fulham’s first attempt on goal came after 20 minutes when Kenny Tete’s clipped cross picked out Iwobi, but his header was a comfortable stop for Pickford.

Ndiaye then sent a low shot wide from the edge of the box, as the fixture settled into a more even contest.

Raúl Jiménez had the next sight of goal, but didn’t get the purchase on Iwobi’s pass that he would’ve liked, with Pickford getting down to it easily enough.

Everton had the ball in the net when Barry tapped in after Ndiaye had missed a ball across the face, but arguably both players were offside and it was duly ruled out.

It was déjà vu for the hosts when the flag then ruled out James Tarkowski’s volley before the break, with his central defensive partner Keane in an offside position when his header was brilliantly saved by Leno.

Everton got the ball over the line for a third time midway through six added minutes at the end of the first half, and this time it counted, with Gueye prodding in after Tarkowski’s header came back off the crossbar.

King was brought on for Lukic at the break and made an immediate impact, breaking the lines and fizzing in a wicked cross that needed beating away by Pickford.

Harry Wilson then saw a shot from the edge of the box land on the roof of the net after taking a deflection off Vitalii Mykolenko, as Fulham continued to turn the screw.

Despite that strong start, the Toffees breached our defence once more when Dewsbury-Hall lashed into the corner but, for the third time in under 53 minutes, we were spared by the offside flag.

Shortly before the hour mark, Samuel Chukwueze and Rodrigo Muniz were introduced, and the latter almost restored parity instantly. It was his chest control that fed King, who brought the ball forward before returning the favour, with Muniz smashing in a shot that was smartly stopped by Pickford.

Chukwueze was next to influence proceedings, bending in a gorgeous pass to release Kevin, but a hesitation in shooting allowed Everton to scramble it away for a corner, which came to nothing.

A gutting moment arrived with quarter of an hour to play when Muniz had to be withdrawn. After going straight down the tunnel, he was replaced by Adama Traoré. Having just come back from a hamstring injury, we’ll be hoping this change was just precautionary.

Things went from bad to worse five minutes later when the Toffees doubled their lead, Keane getting between two Fulham defenders to flick Dewsbury-Hall’s corner over Leno with his shoulder.

Our response came via a thumping angled drive from Adama, one which was beaten away by Pickford, meaning there was to be no consolation on a difficult afternoon in Liverpool.

Fulham boss Marco Silva did not shy away from admitting his side fell short against Everton after their 2-0 Premier League defeat.

"I think we got what we deserved. We played the first 20 mins of the second half - nothing more," Silva told the BBC.

"It's not good enough at all. We didn't cope. It's a moment for us to blame ourselves and look at ourselves in the mirror."

Silva also revealed substitute Rodrigo Muniz had to be replaced because of an injury, saying: "Like all the teams, we need all our strikers for the demands of the Premier League.

"The impact was good in the first moments. But after he felt something again [injured]."

Everton: Pickford, Garner, Tarkowski, Keane, Mykolenko, Iroegbunam (Rohl 67), Gueye, Ndiaye, Dewsbury-Hall (O'Brien 89), Grealish, Barry (Beto 79)

Unused substitutes: McNeil, Travers, Dibling, Coleman, Alcaraz, Aznou

Goals:
Gueye 45'+4 (Breakthrough at the Hill Dickinson Stadium! Mykolenko stands up a deep cross to the back post, Tarkowski climbs highest and thumps a header off the bar, chaos follows, and after Iroegbunam’s mishit effort, Gueye reacts quickest to hammer it in from close range! )
Keane 81 (Surely game over now as Keane heads home Dewsbury-Hall's lovely curling ball in from the right, with Leno helpless to keep that out from such close range. There is a brief check by the VAR for handball, but it clearly came off the centre back's shoulder.)

Yellow Card: Tarkowski (45+3), Iroegbunam (arg,63)

Fulham: Leno, Tete, Andersen, Bassey, Sessegnon, Lukic (King 45), Berge, Wilson (Chukwueze 59), Iwobi, Kevin (Smith Rowe 87), Jimenez (Muniz 58'(Traore 75))

Unused substitutes: Cairney, Cuenca, Castagne, Lecomte

Yellow Card: Lukic (f,10), Bassey (arg,45+3),

Referee: Andy Madley (West Yorkshire)

Attendance: .

Fulham are next in action at 15.00 on Saturday 22nd November when they welcome Sunderland to Craven Cottage.
