Fulham striker Luis Boa Morte has been holding talks with Benfica as the Portuguese club attempt to lure him back to Lisbon next season.
The 24-year-old has been a sensation at Fulham since joining them on loan from Southampton, scoring 16 goals this season.
He has formed a formidable striking partnership with Louis Saha and has become a fans favourite.
But he is keen to make a return to the Portuguese capital, where he played as a junior for Sporting Lisbon, according to the newspaper A Bola.
The sports daily says Boa Morte has agreed terms with Benfica, but no deal has been struck with Southampton, who retain his registration.
There is no indication of how much the Portuguese giants will be prepared to bid for him.
He is seen as the ideal player to fill the role of left-sided forward at Benfica and is tipped for future international honours in Portugal.
Arsenal signed the player in 1997 and he moved to Southampton in 1999 before joining Fulham on loan.
