Referee David Coote started refereeing as a sixteen year-old. He refereed in the Notts Alliance League, the Northern Counties East Football League, the Northern Premier League and the Conference North before being promoted to the Football League. A talented cricketer David played cricket for Notts at various youth age groups, before committing to his refereeing career.

He was promoted to the list of Football League referees in 2010 and to the Select Group 2 of Football Referees, employed on a full time basis, in the summer of 2016.

The last time Mr Coote reffed a Fulham game was the 3-2 home win against Wigan , in February, when he yellow carded Sone Aluko for a foul and two Wigan players for fouls as well.

Prior to the Wigan game he refed the 5-0 slaughter of Huddersfield in which he yellow carded three players including Fulham's Ryan Fredericks in the 36th minute for arguing. Palmer, of Huddersfield, was lucky to have avoid a red card for a wild first-half challenge on Fredericks in the 36th minute.

Prior to the Huddersfield game, in August, Mr Coote reffed our 2-1 League Cup home win against Middlebrough. He booked three Fulham players, Stearman, again, Adeniran and Kavanagh, all for fouls, he also booked one Boro player also for a foul.

In 2014/2015 season, when he first refed a Fulham game, he refed three Fulham games, all away games, two defeats and a draw. Last season he reffed Fulham once in a draw and this season so far he has refed Fulham three times, all victories. In total so far he has been in charge of three wins, two draws and two defeats.

So far this season Aston Villa has been refed twice by Mr Coote, a home draw and a 3-0 away defeat at Brentford.

Last season he reffed 30 games, dished out 111 yellows and 5 reds,so a slightly above average 3.7 yellows per game. So far this season he has bossed 36 games dishing out 120 yellows and 6 red, so a slightly below average 3.3 yellows per game.
