Michael Leslie Dean, from Heswall in The Wirrall, Cheshire began refereeing in 1985 and joined the Select Group of Premiership referees eight
season ago.
At 39, he is one of the Barclaycard Premiership's youngest referees, but the Merseyside shift supervisor turned
full-time ref has already taken charge of a FA Community Shield and so should be undaunted by the league's multi-millionaire stars. Ref Dean
was also admitted to the FIFA referee list in 2003
Mike got himself suspended by the Professional Game Match Officials Ltd (PGMOL)for the last 3 months of 2004/2005. He had got himself involved with Arbitros (Spanish for referees) Racing, an online horse racing syndicate, and an advert in the Racing Post read Join Premiership referee Mike Dean in this exciting new venture. This was judged to be against the terms of his contract, as he was using his status to his advantage.James
Ref Dean has been present at a number of key moments in Fulham's recent history. He was in-charge of the game against Wolves which ended our record breaking 10 game winning run in 1999-2000, he was in-charge of our first Premiership home game, he was in-charge of the game where Barthez out psyched Steed over a penalty, he was in-charge of the Middlesbrough game when Fulham scored two in the last few moments to take a draw with Gentleman Jim nearly bursting a blood vessel, the brawl at West Brom and most recently he was in charge of the delicious victory against the Blues of Fulham Broadway.
We have won three of the eleven premiership games Mr Dean has managed. In his
elevengames he has issued 35 yellow and 5 red cards which is above average for Premiership games. On a more positive note of the cards he has issued Fulham players received 15 yellows
and 3 reds with 5 of the yellows and 2 of the reds coming in the rumble at The Hawthorns.
Hopefully Mr Dean helps Fulham to a win on Saturday.
Referee Stats - 2007/2008 |
Ref Dean's whistle useage rate is starting to return to the Premiership average after a career low last season.
However his yellow, red and penalty per match figures are currently at an all time high.

Thats sounds good!!! |

Ref Dean's foul and yellow stats indicate an unusual anti-home bias relative to other Premiership refs.
His bias is even more obvious with red cards as he has given home players 5 reds out of his total of 8.
Hopefully he keeps up the good work on Saturday.

Blackburn players gestured that Knight had headbutted Stead but referee Mike Dean consulted his assistant and took no action.

This was the game where Barthez out psyched Steed over a penalty. Later Ref Dean was asked about the event.
He said: "
The Barthez penalty behaviour certainly generated some talking points and I learnt something that day as well. I will make
sure everyone is ready in future before I blow my whistle to avoid anything like that again. Before a penalty there is a lot
to look for with players trying to encroach and so you have a lot of possible distractions. As I said I will wait until
everyone is ready before blowing my whistle and then there is no misunderstandings". (Ed: Thats good then!!) |
