Fulham defender Zat Knight was fined and left out of Saturday's game against Manchester United after reportedly breaking a curfew with a midweek visit to a nightclub.

Fulham boss Chris Coleman would not confirm Knight's indiscretion but was clearly still unhappy with the England international despite his apology.

After his side's 3-2 defeat by United, Coleman revealed: "Zat Knight was left out of the squad for a disciplinary reason which happened earlier in the week.

"I don't really want to go into the situation but he broke a rule and I wasn't happy so I left him out.

"We have fined him. I haven't really made my mind up about the next game at Charlton yet, I've got two weeks to think about that, but I was adamant he wasn't playing today.

"There are rules and regulations that the players know they have to stick by. Zat overstepped the mark and he was punished. He's said sorry and I respect that, but I'm still far from happy with him."

Knight, 25, had played in Fulham's defeat by Tottenham on Monday night at White Hart Lane, but was not included even on the bench against United, with Alain Goma replacing him in central defence.
