Fulham Boss Kit Symons has played down the chances of Fulham emulating the remarkable promotion of his former club Crystal Palace.

Symons was player/assistant manager at Palace in 2003-04, when they stormed up the league and won the play-offs having been languishing in 20th on Bonfire Night.

At the same stage this season, Fulham are 17th and have looked a revived team since Symons replaced Felix Magath, the 3-1 win over Huddersfield extending their unbeaten run to six matches.

Owner Shahid Khan last week declared his aim was for a top-six finish - but Symons concedes it will be tough to repeat Palace's run.

He said: "It's a big ask from where we've come. My aim is just to improve every week.

"The league is wide open, everyone is beating everyone so it makes it incredibly tough. For us to get up there, we need to have a good run from now until the end of the season, which is a monumental ask.

"At Palace, we just snuck in on the last day and beat West Ham in the final. It can be done, but it was a long time ago and it's not a regular occurrence.

"It'd be nice but it's a bit early for that. We've just moved out of the bottom three again so I'm certainly not getting giddy."
