Fulham manager Martin Jol |
Mark Hughes angered Fulham fans when he left the club last June and said he was an ambitious manager - but his replacement Martin Jol claims their ambitions are more realistic than his new club Queens Park Rangers.
Hughes joined newly-promoted QPR in January and tried to raid his old club - who his side face on Saturday - with offers for strikers Bobby Zamora and Andy Johnson.
Zamora chose to join Hughes but Fulham kept hold of Johnson, who scored a hat-trick in their 6-0 thrashing of QPR at Craven Cottage earlier in the season.
When asked if Fulham's ambitions were more realistic, Jol replied: 'Yes, because we don't spend hundreds of millions. We do things in the right way.
'There are a few people in the world with a lot of money but even if they have the ambition they always need a couple of years. Even Mark will need a couple of years to do what they want to do.
'We've got some players with a lot of transfer value and if you look at our development squads we play games against Arsenal and Chelsea and we win games against them.
'There a few clubs interested in our players and in our young players as well and that is a good thing.'
The Dutchman added: 'Zamora wanted a fresh challenge, a new challenge, so hopefully he won't regret it.'
