Steve Bruce will make a swoop for Hugo Rodallega after finally admitting defeat in his bid to land Arsenal's Nicklas Bendtner, writes Bill Cooper.

Hull boss Bruce is desperate to bring another striker to his Premier League newcomers and has targeted Fulham's Rodallega, who he previously signed in 2008 when he was Wigan manager.

The 28-year-old Colombian has failed to make an impact with Martin Jol's side following a free-transfer switch from Latics 14 months ago.

He is available for £2million following the Cottagers' capture of Darren Bent on a season-long loan from Aston Villa.

The Tigers have been priced out of a move for £3m-rated Bendtner, who is on £50,000-a-week at the Emirates.

After Saturday's 2-0 defeat at Manchester City, Bruce said: "It's not just about money. It's about making the difference and finding a player who is good enough.

"Where am I going to get a proven player who can score 12 or 15 goals in the Premier League?

"Even if I had the Humber Bridge to play with, can I get him here to Hull? If there's big competition, we have to be realistic.

"We're trying our best, and in my opinion, we've done fantastically well in the transfer window.

"We'd love one more, every manager would say that, but we've been asking who we can bring in for weeks."
