Darlington Football Club, in Football League Two, have signed Fulham and former Newcastle United youngster Neale McDermott on a month's loan and the midfielder could go straight into the side to face Peterborough at London Road tonight.

If all goes well he will appear at Darlington's Williamson Motors Stadium on the weekend when Shrewsbury are the visitors.

McDermott, son of Newcastle United coach Terry, has spent much of the campaign on loan at Swindon, where he scored two goals in 16 appearances and has been signed to provide midfield cover for the injured Anthony Peacock and Phil Stamp.

Quakers assistant manager Mark Proctor said: "This is a terrific signing for us as we look to consolidate our play-off position.

"Neale will give us another option as he is the type of player that will make runs into the box and try and get on the end of things.

"We never envisaged having to bring a midfielder in, but our hand was forced by the injuries to Phil Stamp and Anthony Peacock, while Adrian Webster is away with the New Zealand national team."

McDermott, who will wear the number 14 shirt for the Quakers, has not yet featured for Premiership Fulham's first team.
