Fulham gave minutes to 21 players as they beat Nottingham Forest 3-1 in the first friendly of their Portugal training camp.
Harry Wilson was the difference at the break, with his superb brace giving the Whites a 2-0 half-time lead.
Andreas Pereira – one of several changes – increased the advantage, and Chris Wood’s header proved just a consolation for our opponents on a satisfactory evening at Estádio de São Luís.
After the first ten minutes passed with relatively little incident, Forest forced the first opening as their captain Ryan Yates dragged an effort wide from outside the box.
But the deadlock was broken by the Whites shortly after, as Wilson latched onto a ball from Calvin Bassey and matched his exquisite first touch with a deft lob over the ‘keeper.
And our Welsh wizard was given a chance to make it two when Ryan Sessegnon was pushed off balance as he tried his luck from range. The resulting free-kick was expertly bent around the Forest wall, finding the bottom corner for 2-0.
Our opponents threatened to pull one back when Bassey found himself in a battle with Taiwo Awoniyi, with the number nine eventually getting his shot away and pulling a fine save out of Bernd Leno.
Emile Smith Rowe went in search of Fulham’s third, first seeing a low drive blocked by a Forest defender, and then firing just wide when he was given a second bite of the cherry.
Both sides made several changes at the break, and Leno had to snatch the ball away from Igor Jesus’ feet as the Reds looked to reduce the deficit.
Instead, the Whites extended their lead when substitute Andreas met a cut-back from Saša Lukic and thumped the ball home with a first-time finish.
There was still work for Leno to do at the other end, coming quickly off his line to clear the danger from an onrushing Jesus, and batting away a Morgan Gibbs White piledriver.
However, our number one couldn’t prevent Wood’s header at the back post, as the forward rose highest to pull one back for Forest.
Marco Silva’s men remained resolute though, and saw out the remainder of the game with relative ease to pick up their third victory of pre-season.
