Fulham v Tottenham - Squad News
last updated Friday 22nd March 2002, 11:57 PM
Fulham midfield duo Sean Davis and Lee Clark are battling back to fitness
- and England Under-21 international Davis is hopeful of featuring in Sunday's
vital FA Barclaycard Premiership showdown with Tottenham at Craven Cottage.
Davis has not played for Jean Tigana's faltering team since sustaining
heavy bruising to his thigh in the 2-0 defeat against Liverpool three
weeks ago.
But he is now nearing a return, while his midfield colleague Clark has
set himself a target of the April 14 FA Cup semi-final with west London
rivals Chelsea to make his comeback from a calf strain.
The former Newcastle and Sunderland man went down with the injury in
the Liverpool match, which was his first game back after two months out
with an Achilles problem.
John Collins has been working with Cottagers fitness coach Roger Propos
to overcome a minor hamstring niggle this week and is expected to be fit
to face Spurs.

Unless there is a remarkable recovery rate in the treatment room, Tottenham
boss Hoddle may have to face Fulham with one fit striker in Steffen Iversen.
Spurs have three strikers receiving treatment ahead of Sunday's trip across
the capital.
Captain Teddy Sheringham (groin), Les Ferdinand (Achilles tendon) and
Sergei Rebrov (back) are all doubtful, leaving Steffen Iversen as the
only fit frontman.
Defenders Dean Richards (groin) and Ben Thatcher (hamstring) are also
doubts, while Mauricio Taricco is suspended, although midfielder Stephen
Clemence is set to be added to the squad.
Defenders Dean Richards (groin) and Ben Thatcher (hamstring) and strikers
Teddy Sheringham (groin), Les Ferdinand (Achilles tendon) and Sergei Rebrov
are all doubtful.
Rebrov is the latest casualty of the clash with Charlton having taken
a knock on his back early in the game. Hoddle said: 'Sergei got a whack
on his back and it has since stiffened up. He is doubtful along with the
others. I am down to about 16 fit players and I won't know how many of
the injured players will be available until the day of the game.
'The squad is very tired at the moment and not being able to rest players
at the right time has made our season more difficult. Since Christmas,
when I wanted a squad of around 18 or 19 players in order to rest a few,
I have not had the chance to do so.'

Top Guns
Fulham may be the Premiership newbies but the Tottenham squad only manage
to show out better in than the Cottagers in two aspects of the game. Disciplinary
matters, 5 reds against Fulham's 1 with Christian Ziege gaining more yellows
than any player in either squad, and in relation to goals, two Tottenham
players have scored more than Fulham's top scorer.
In between these two aspects of the game Glen Hoddle has been unable to
create as good a footballing side as Jean Tigana and at the moment
his squad is also showing signs of disintegration with £11m Rebrov
going so far as to criticise his manager in the press. Hoddle also went
out of his way to publicly castigated his young central defender Ledly King
for perceived errors on the football pitch.
On the Opta stats Darren "Sicknote" Anderton is Spurs playmaker
with the top Passing and Crossing numbers and despite Manager Hoddles's
public criticism Ledley King also shows
up well in terms of Passing and Tackling.
Fulham players top the sections for Shots on Target, Passes completed and
Tackles completed and if we could just get some improvement in the goals
scored section we could terrorise all but one or two squads in the Premiership.
