Fulham are in advanced talks to sign Huddersfield Town defender Terence Kongolo.

The Dutchman saw a recent move to Sheffield United stall due to concerns regarding his fitness with Blades chief Chris Wilder having inquired about bringing in the 26-year-old as a potential replalcement for Jack O'Connell, sidelined this season after knee surgery.

Kongolo, who has not played for the Terriers for nearly a year, spent a loan spell at Fulham earlier this year, but broke a bone in his foot less than ten minutes into his second appearance for them.

He underwent an operation to have metalwork put into the foot.

The Craven Cottage outfit, in the market for new recruits in their back line after a difficult start to the Premier League campaign, have maintained their interest in Kongolo and are now making a move ahead of this week's domestic transfer deadline for clubs - at 5pm on Friday.

Kongolo, who joined Huddersfield for a club record fee in the summer of 2017 after a successful initial loan spell from Monaco, is contracted until the summer of 2022 and is one of the club's remaining big earners, with Town keen to get him off their wage bill.

Speaking about his future ahead of the season, Town head coach Carlos Corberan said: "I think he is going to be one of the players that has options to not stay with us in the next year.”
