Luton's Fulham loan man, Bjorn Runstrom, has denied making a blast at the poor standards at Hatters, claiming his outspoken words came from an imposter.

The 23-year-old was reported to have branded the Town's caretaker management team as 'clowns' and added that 'an iceberg would have a greater chance of making it in hell than Luton have of staying in the Championship'.

That attack prompted Hatters left-back Sol Davis to brand the Swede a 'maggot of a man'.

But Runstrom has now claimed that the broadside, which was first posted on his website and was then published in The Sun, was a 'cruel practical joke' played by someone else.

He said: "I was shocked and upset to see the quotes that were attributed to me in The Sun newspaper.

"I have a website run by a fan in Sweden, which I am regularly interviewed for, but the words that appeared on the site were not mine and I immediately made sure they were removed.

"Unfortunately it was not before they had been seen by a journalist who printed them without clarification from me.

"I have only started playing in this country this season and I have a huge amount of respect for everyone involved in the game over here.

"I came to Luton to play football and to gain invaluable experience playing alongside some good players, and for them to think I would refer to them with such disrespect is deeply distressing.

"I hope that I can return with good feelings from the manager, players and fans and I hope that in the short time they have known me they would believe that this is a cruel practical joke played by someone as it would never be something that I would say."

Runstrom is currently with his family in Sweden as Hatters are without a game this weekend due to the international break.

He is due to play the final game of his current second month's loan spell at Luton away at Burnley on Saturday, March 31.
