Fulham has signed Everton defender Luke Garbutt on a season-long loan.

The 22-year-old, who signed a new five-year contract with the Toffees last month, will spend the 2015/16 season at the Fulham in order to gain valuable first team experience.

Garbutt had put an end to speculation over his future at Goodison Park by signing a new deal, he then revealed the plan was for him to spend a year out on loan, with both Leighton Baines and Bryan Oviedo currently ahead of him in the pecking order.

Fulham Football Club statement: Fulham is delighted to announce the season-long loan signing of defender Luke Garbutt from Everton.

The 22-year-old defender has represented England at all youth levels from Under 16s to Under 21s and recently represented his country at the UEFA European Under-21 Championship this summer.

Garbutt started his youth career at Leeds United before moving to Everton in 2009. He made over 50 appearances and scored 5 goals during his two loans spells at Cheltenham Town and Colchester United.

On his return to the North West, he made his first-team debut for the Toffees in a Premier League match against Southampton in April 2014 which lead to a first call-up to the England Under 21s side.

Garbutt said: "When I got the call saying Fulham wanted me on a season-long loan, I spoke to the manager and the staff here and I liked what they had to say and their plans for me this season. They've shown their faith and trust in me. I'm really looking forward to working with the boys and obviously the main objective is to get promoted this season."

Everon manager Roberto Martinez believes a year with the Cottagers will be key to Garbutt fulfilling his potential.

He said: "Luke is ready to go on loan and gain playing time and experience which will further help his development and, ultimately, help him to fulfil his potential.

"He has all the talent in the world with his cultured left foot and he will shine and be a massive asset in the Fulham team and in their dressing room.

"This was always the plan for Luke after he impressed last season and regular, competitive football is the next step in his development. In his position, he is one of the most talented young players in England."

Garbutt also played a big part of Everton's Europa League campaign, making five appearances for the Blues in the competition.
