Fulham owner Tony Khan has praised striker Aleksandar Mitrovic after he was named EFL player of the year at the London Football Awards.

The Serbian striker – who has 34 goals in 31 Championship appearances this season – saw off competition from teammates Harry Wilson and Neeskens Kebano, as well as Ilias Chair and Chris Willock of Queens Park Rangers.

Speaking on social media after the announcement, Khan praised Mitrovic’s dedication to Fulham.

“I’m delighted that Mitro’s been voted EFL Player of the Year at the London Football Awards!” Khan wrote on Twitter.

“His accomplishments are a testimony to his hard work and his dedication to the club, for which all of us at Fulham are very grateful.

“Congratulations Mitro!”

Mitrovic has been mightily impressive leading the line for Fulham this season, breaking the Championship goal record as The Cottagers look set to win promotion and a return to the Premier League.

Speaking after receiving the award, Mitrovic said it was an honour to receive the prize and took time to thank his teammates.

“I want to say thank you to everyone who voted for me,” Mitrovic said via the Fulham club website.

“It’s a really nice and big honour for me, especially when you consider how many talented players, with a big future, play in our league.

“This award is really special, it’s an individual one but I have to thank my teammates and everyone involved at this football club that works really hard on a daily basis in order to help me and my teammates perform well.”

Fulham face Blackburn Rovers at Craven Cottage tomorrow where Mitrovic will no doubt look to add to his record-breaking goal tally.

This will be the first of many awards Aleksandar Mitrovic receives this season after such a phenomenal campaign.

The 26-year-old has had impressive seasons in the Championship before, but never one quite like this.

Breaking the Championship goal record with such a significant portion of the season remaining is testament to the Serbian’s impact on Fulham’s promotion push under Marco Silva.

With 13 games to play – who knows how many more goals Mitrovic will add to his 34-goal-tally as he looks to fire Fulham to the Championship title and the Premier League.
