Fulham midfielder Tyrese Francois has agreed a new contract with Fulham.

The Australian midfielder, who turns 22 tomorrow (July 16), is set to sign a new two-year deal with a club option of a further year, The Athletic understands.

He is now set to link up with the first team squad for their pre-season tour to Portugal.

Francois came through the academy at Fulham and captained Australia's Under-23s side at the Asian Under-23 Championship last month, where they reached the semi-finals.

The midfielder grew up in Campbell Town, near Sydney in Australia, and moved to the UK from aged 14.

He joined Fulham along with his brother Marlee, now at Bristol City, aged 16, and went on to make his first-team debut during the 2019-20 season in the League Cup. Injury slowed his progress but he made one league appearance during Fulham's previous Premier League campaign in 2020-21 under Scott Parker. He has since made 12 senior appearances for Fulham, including four last year under Marco Silva.

Fulham are due to fly to the Algarve, Portugal for their pre-season tour tonight (Friday), with two games scheduled over the weekend against Nice and Benfica respectively.

Francois's deal follows similar agreements for Steven Sessegnon, 22, and Ollie O'Neill, 19. Sessegnon signed a new one-year deal, with a club option of a further year, before joining Charlton on loan earlier this month, while O'Neill has signed a three-year deal with a further one-year club option.

Fulham are also likely to offer goalkeeper George Wickens a new contract, who spent last season on loan at Wealdstone. He has had interest from several Football League clubs, but could be involved as one of Fulham's three first team goalkeepers this season.

Fulham FC statement - Geoff Pruce
The Club is delighted to announce that Tyrese Francois has agreed a new contract.

With his previous deal running out this summer, the midfielder has now put pen to paper on a two-year deal which ties him to Fulham until June 2024.

Speaking after committing his future, the midfielder - who turns 22 today - told FFCtv: “I’m delighted to get it over the line. I can now concentrate on my football, so I’m excited.

“Ever since I came to the UK, I’ve only ever been at Fulham, so it’s my home away from home.”

Tony Khan added: “I’m pleased that we’ve agreed to a contract extension with Tyrese Francois!

“Since he first joined our academy at a young age, Tyrese has worked hard to improve. He’s come a very long way, and we expect that he’ll continue to develop his skills, which is why we’re excited to extend his contract and keep him at the Club.

“Well done, Tyrese! Come on Fulham!”

Francois was given his Premier League debut on the final day of the 2020/21 campaign, and made four appearances under Marco Silva last season.
