Fulham midfielder Josh King has been called up to the England squad for the upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures.
Thomas Tuchel has named the 19-year-old in his squad to face Croatia
Josh's selection comes following a stellar start to the season, starting every Premier League match, notching two goals and one assist.
The midfielder had previously joined up with the England squad as part of the training group ahead of the FIFA World Cup in the summer, but will now be in contention to make his Three Lions debut during the November international break.
Josh King reaction:
Josh King has become the first Fulham player to feature in an England senior squad in eight years.
The 19-year-old has been selected by Thomas Tuchel to be part of the England squad to face Croatia and Spain in the UEFA Nations League this month.
It's crazy. It's genuinely crazy! It's a surreal feeling. I don't think it's set in yet.
When reflecting on his journey so far, Josh paid tribute to the support he has received from his family and Fulham.
“Obviously it’s something I have worked towards for a lot of years, and yesterday when I found out, I was talking to my parents, thinking about how I was that five-year-old walking through the gates at LSE at Fulham, and now I could be playing for England. It's incredible.”
His teammates and coaching staff at Motspur Park were quick to greet him and share his excitement on Friday morning when the news broke.
”It’s a hard feeling to describe, it's like I'm like a little kid again! It's all that excitement like I first had when I was playing football and the fact that I get to play for the country is an incredible feeling. I can't wait and I don't think I've stopped smiling!
As grounded as ever, Josh wants to ensure that the call up serves as further motivation to perform well for Álvaro Arbeloa’s side.
“I’ve got a good support system around me so they'll never really let me get too ahead of myself! First and foremost is to keep performing well for Fulham and to keep enjoying my football, and the rest will come.
