Fulham manager Álvaro Arbeloa hopes Fulham’s match against AFC Wimbledon on Thursday night is the first Carabao Cup fixture in a run that culminates in us lifting the trophy.

“It's a great opportunity for us, for sure,” our Head Coach said. “It's another competition that we have a chance to make our impact and, of course, it's a big opportunity for many of our players.

“But yes, we will try to win that competition, for sure. This is the target. I think it's not just our target, for sure Wimbledon wants to win the competition, too, and we need to play with that ambition.”

In his pre-match press conference, Arbeloa was asked about the role of some players who did not start against Chelsea – namely Kenny Tete and Rodrigo Muniz.

“Yes, Kenny will play tomorrow, and yes, I'm happy with him,” Arbeloa confirmed. “He has been working so hard, and I know that he is a player with a lot of experience, and he can help us in a lot of ways.

“He's very good player, so I'm happy with him. And yes, he will have his opportunity tomorrow.

“We need Rodrigo, for sure. For sure we will need him. Obviously, it's not about Rodri or Gonzalo, César and Emile, or about Josh and Oscar, or – I don't know – Shea and Sander.

“So, yes, it's very important. The squad, they need to fight for a place in the 11 starters, and that is very important for me as a manager.”
