Fulham will launch a bid to appoint David Wagner as their next permanent manager in an effort to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

The Whites are 19th in the table and 13 points from safety having lost their last seven.

Claudio Ranieri was sacked amid that run and replaced by Scott Parker until the end of the season.

But the former England international has been unable to arrest the club's slump having been beaten in each of his three matches at the helm.

Those defeats to Chelsea; Leicester City and Liverpool mean Fulham could be relegated before Easter.

And iNews understand the club have already begun planning for their return to the Championship.

Wagner has been unattached since leaving bottom club Huddersfield in January.

The German departed the John Smith's Stadium in an effort to take a break from the sport.

There is no doubting Wagner's managerial pedigree having taken Huddersfield into the top flight for the first time since 1972.

He then kept the club in the Premier League last term; as the Terriers finished 16th four points above the drop zone.

Bristol City's Lee Johnson and Kilmarnock boss Steve Clarke are among the other candidates being considered.

What becomes of Parker; 38; remains to be seen with the highly thought-of coach swimming against the tide in West London.

He was installed as first team coach under Slavisa Jokanovic last summer but could yet be forced to leave Craven Cottage.
