Fulham likely to face Sochaux

last updated Monday 22nd July 2002, 1:33 PM
Fulham, if they hold on to their one goal lead over Egaleo on Sataurday, are likely to face Sochaux in the semi-finals.

FC Synot were beaten 3-0 at home by French side FC Sochaux-Montbéliard, with French Under-21 international striker Pierre-Alain Frau scoring twice for the visitors either side of half-time. The third goal came from Swiss midfield player Johann Lonfat six minutes from time.

Fulham played Sochaux-Montbéliard in a friendly back in November of last year to raise money for families of those killed or injured in a chemical factory explosion in Toulouse.

The final result was 2-0 to Sochaux.

Interestingly the other English InterToto Cup entrant, Aston Villa, were beaten 2-0 away at Zurich on Sunday. Obviously winning in the InterToto is not as easy as some armchair experts would have us believe. It means Villa have to get 3 goals and keep a clean sheet while Fulham need a clean sheet.
