                | | Peter Lovenkrands | |

It has emerged that Fulham failed in an eleventh
hour bid to take Peter Lovenkrands from Schalke to Craven Cottage.

Lovenkrands has reportedly grown frustrated with his role at Gelsenkirchen, after
playing only 20 times in the Bundesliga last season. After spending six years at
Rangers before his free-transfer departure to Schalke, the Dane was eager to make a return to Britain.

Fulham manager Roy Hodgson reportedly made a late bid for the services of the jet-heeled
winger, only to be confronted with an inflated price-tag.

Schalke's general manager Andreas Muller confirmed that the German giants would
seek a €4million fee for the player's signature, leaving the deal dead in the water.

It has emerged that Lovernkrands was dismayed that a deal could not have been pushed
through. However, it is believed that the issue will be renewed during the next transfer window.

Lovenkrands, who is married to a British woman, stated to Kicker:
"It would have
been an advantage to go to England for me and my family.
